Prayer Friends
First Communion is a special time of grace for the young people of our parish. With your participation in this prayer apostolate, you make a promise to pray daily for the child preparing for their First Communion whose name you pick. You will not only pray for this child, but you will also offer acts of sacrifice and mortification (example: fasting) on the child’s behalf, allowing him or her to be properly disposed to receive the special sacrament for which he/she is preparing. Every month-only once a month-a child is to receive (in the mail) some type of note from you. The note, of course, is to remind them that you are praying for them. You may include in the envelope little books, cards, etc.
Gifts- 4 gifts are to be given to the child: on the child’s birthday,
Christmas, Easter, and when you meet the child before First Holy Communion (Date, time and location to be announced.) If the child’s birthday falls in the summer, you may choose another occasion to give a gift, such as Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Thanksgiving, etc. Gifts are suggested to be religious in nature. The opportunity to serve as a Prayer Friend will be available after weekend masses one weekend in the month of September.
