Woman Called BY Name/ Enroll NOW!

Far from being silent, oppressed, or passive victims, the Jewish women of the Old Testament were vocal, active, and often exemplary in virtue and wisdom. Many of the women of the Old Testament were first modest virgins (Rebecca and Rachel), then chaste and active wives (Abigail and Esther), next devoted mothers (Hannah and Anna), and finally devout widows (Judith and the woman of Zarephath who fed Elijah during the famine). Women have the privilege of being of the sex that represents the soul and the Church in union with God. This privilege was revealed through the inspired writings of the Old Testament.

Women of the New Testament encountered our Lord Jesus as disciples (Mary Magdalene), family members (Elizabeth), sinners seeking forgiveness (The Woman Caught in Adultery), a mother of His apostles (Salome), and His own Mother (Our Blessed Mother, Mary). These women’s lives were filled with the faith to encounter and endure their lives as followers of Christ to His death. The New Testament attests to the power of faith in our sisters of old.

Our parish continues the path to spiritual formation in the upcoming study of “Old Testament Women” in the fall of 2016, followed by a study of “New Testament Women” in the spring of 2017. To study these women’s lives is to study FAITH.

Our plan is to study the 10 women of the Old Testament this fall beginning in the month of October and ending in early December. We will offer an evening and a day study to accommodate the needs of all our women. The class will end with a Mass & Christmas social on December 13, 2016.

Registration is open NOW and until AUGUST 1, 2016. We hope you will discern, through prayer and contemplation, to answer the call to be a part of this faith-filled journey with other mothers from our school. Contact Stephanie Supple, at the parish office (337-232-8945 or administrator@fatimalafayette.org) to SIGN UP NOW.
